Adjacent to the nation’s busiest freeway, the Dan Ryan Expressway in Chicago, Illinois, L.B. Foster’s steel sheet piling products are being used by National Trench Safety (NTS) to help protect underground workers and the public in and around an excavation site.

The material provides infrastructure support during road construction and rehabilitation projects where the rented z type sheet piling is used in conjunction with steel guides to provide soil support in an area up to 40’x40’ and to the depth of the required excavation.

“Trench safety is crucial during roadway construction projects and our steel sheet pile rental program helps to lessen costs associated with this type of temporary safety application.  We also provide streamlined procurement of material through our convenient stocking locations throughout the U.S.,” comments Dru Kocina, Senior Client Manager, L.B. Foster Piling.

PZC™ sheet piling is manufactured with a contractor preferred ball and socket interlock design, which provides a greater degree of swing and flexibility over other Z-profile sheet piling sections. “In this type of temporary application, the ball and socket interlocks act like a joint that provides a range of motion which lessens the friction when extracting the sheets,” said Richard Morales, Director of Engineering, L.B. Foster Piling.  “It’s ideal for multiple uses and is manufactured to incorporate extra steel in the corners of the sheets to further reinforce the wall structure for traverse loading during construction,” continues Morales.

PZC™ is a trademark of Gerdau.
