L.B. Foster is proud to have been working together with PND Engineers for over 25 years promoting the advantages of the OPEN CELL SHEET PILE™ (OCSP™) system as an alternative value engineered MSE foundation solution. The proven technology of the OCSP system has been successfully installed in more than 250 applications since the mid 80’s.

It was designed originally as a high-load capacity solution for temporary bridge abutments, and over the years has been used in the construction of marine bulkheads for berthing ships and barges as well as for shoreline erosion protection. Similar to an MSE wall type application, the OCSP system can be utilized for embankment stabilization where the flat steel sheet piles that make up the cellular face and vertical anchor walls work together to form a horizontally tied membrane that confines and strengthens the soil.

The system has been used effectively in locations that are susceptible to severe ice, soft soils, deep water, scour, and seismic events. PND Engineers, Inc. holds U.S. and Canada patents for OPEN CELL technology. Gerdau manufactures the unique flat web sheets incorporated into OPEN CELL structures. L.B. Foster assures material management and timely delivery of the OPEN CELL system to your jobsite.
