L.B. Foster Champions Inclusion at RIA Trailblazers Summer Networking Reception
Last week, L.B. Foster proudly returned as a supporting sponsor of the Railway Industry Association (RIA) Annual Trailblazers Summer Networking Reception - RIA’s flagship event dedicated to connecting emerging talent with established leaders, fostering meaningful mentorship, and celebrating a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves.
Hosted at the iconic Kia Oval in London, the event brought together a vibrant mix of junior and senior professionals from across the rail sector. The reception continues to play a key role in advancing the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Charter launched in November 2020 by RIA and Women in Rail and supported the ongoing efforts of the EDI Charter Working Group to build a more inclusive and forward-thinking industry.
Anthony Thompson and Jack Austin demonstrated our commitment to inclusivity by representing our company and showcasing inform by L.B. Foster, an innovative solution designed to remove accessibility barriers across the rail network. At the heart of the solution is our groundbreaking British Sign Language (BSL) software platform that delivers real-time BSL translations of station announcements and live train information. By providing immediate access to critical travel updates, our technology enables passengers whose first language was BSL to travel with greater confidence, independence, and safety.
Darren Caplan, Chief Executive of RIA, highlighted the importance of the event and the role of its supporters:
“RIA Trailblazers plays an important role in bringing together future and existing leaders from across UK rail. So, we are grateful to L.B. Foster for supporting this year’s Summer Networking Reception and for their continued commitment to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, as we all look to develop a bigger and better railway industry in the months and years ahead.”
Supporting Trailblazers also reinforced our commitment to collaboration and inclusive engagement. Reflecting on the event, Anthony Thompson, Senior Business Development Manager, L.B. Foster said:
“It was a real pleasure to be back at the Kia Oval as a key sponsor of the Annual Trailblazers Summer Networking Reception. A heartfelt thank you to Katie Lafferty for once again collaborating with L.B. Foster, providing exceptional interpretation and making sure Deaf attendees could fully participate in the day’s discussions. Katie Lafferty’s dedication and professionalism truly reflect a shared passion for accessibility and inclusion. As the rail industry continues to evolve, events like Trailblazers serve as a powerful reminder that progress is driven by people, partnerships, and a shared commitment to inclusion.”
By championing accessibility, supporting initiatives like the RIA’s Trailblazers events, and investing in innovative technologies, L.B. Foster plays an active role in shaping a railway that is more connected, more inclusive, and ready for the future.
