There’s no better time to recognise apprentice success than during National Apprenticeship Week. Today, we are celebrating our Trainee Quantity Surveyors, Maria Siewniak, Ephraim Boakye, and Josh Walker, who joined L.B. Foster colleagues in the UK in September 2024 and May 2023.

Maria Siewniak, Trainee Quantity Surveyor, shares her enthusiasm, "Being a degree apprentice in the railway industry has exposed me to countless new educational and practical learning opportunities. Working in the office alongside my university studies, L.B. Foster has provided me the chance to grow as an individual in my field. Developing my early career and networking with apprentices just like myself, National Apprenticeship Week should inspire school leavers to consider this path for their future!"
Ephraim Boakye, Trainee Quantity Surveyor, echoes this sentiment, saying, "Starting out as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor has turned out better than I expected. I've had the opportunity to be involved in real-life rail projects and work alongside colleagues with years of experience. I will always be thankful to L.B. Foster for allowing me to further my skills and gain new ones along this journey. I am excited for the challenges yet to come in my career. National Apprenticeship Week is the biggest week in the apprenticeship calendar and should teach aspiring apprentices the importance of networking."

Josh Walker, Trainee Quantity Surveyor, highlights the diverse learning experiences he's had, saying, "Since being at L.B. Foster for nearly two years, I have been exposed to various projects, each providing their own challenges. LBF has taught me invaluable lessons covering cost management, forecasting, and the project cycle."
Richard Dodwell, Managing Surveyor at L.B. Foster Europe, emphasises the importance of attracting young talent
"In the face of a shortage of Quantity Surveyors, it's crucial to attract more young talent into the construction industry. Maria, Ephraim, and Josh have brought incredible enthusiasm and developed new skills at every turn. It's been a true pleasure to help them embark on their Quantity Surveying journey."
