A keynote speech by the CEO of Network Rail and the Great British Railways Transition Team has paid tribute to L.B. Foster’s innovative British Sign Language (BSL) solution for its Inform mobile and fixed digital displays.
This year’s ‘Dinner at the Roundhouse’ at the Derby Arena, held on 19 October, was attended by over 700 UK railway industry guests. The evening’s keynote speaker Sir Andrew Haines is the CEO of Network Rail and the Great British Railways Transition Team.
Sir Andrew Haines said: “L.B. Foster (sic) has developed technology that allows real time sign language to be used on digital display screens in our stations, breaking down barriers for customers who are therefore hearing impaired, who find it difficult to reach station departure, horses who can’t listen to announcements, making our railway more accessible and marketing from passengers in a genuinely inclusive way that technology has been ruled rolled out of all our level road manage stations and I hope there will be that much further as well soon.”
The BSL solution is part of L.B. Foster’s Inform Media suite of passenger information software.
“Our innovative British Sign Language (BSL) software enables real time travel information to be shared with the Deaf community via in-screen BSL interpreters. It seems to have really captured the imagination of the UK rail industry, with interest further afield both in Europe and North America. “Following our successful trial at London Euston station, we’re really proud to be rolling out this innovative software across the UK rail network, with plans for it to be introduced at many more stations in the coming weeks and months.” Adam Cousins, Head of Business Development, L.B.
