CXT® Inc., a subsidiary of L.B. Foster, officially achieved a two-hour fire-resistance rating for the 10.5” thick Envirocast wall panel system. Envirocast, a factory-cast panel system with integral concrete, insulation and metal studs, provides a rapidly erected solution for the exterior walls of residential and light commercial buildings.
The two-hour fire-resistance rating was achieved following testing and evaluation in accordance with ASTM E-119 that was completed by an independent company, ICC-Evaluation Service (ICC-ES), at their Bryan, TX testing facility.
The fire-resistance rating makes the Envirocast system a code-compliant solution for a wide range of multifamily and commercial applications under the Florida Building Code (FBC) Sections 706 and 707. This certification represents a major milestone for the product line and provides builders, developers, and designers with a faster, simpler way to meet critical fire-safety requirements, without the complexity of traditional site-built wall assemblies.
Section 706 of FBC requires two-hour fire-rated party walls in many multifamily residential applications. Party walls are shared, separation walls between attached units; the 10.5” Envirocast system meets the two-hour fire-rating requirement and is suitable for occupancy groups F-2, S-2, R-3, and R-4. These groups include townhomes, condominiums, and other attached residential buildings where fire separation between units is mandatory.
In addition, the 10.5” wall panel system is certified for use as a fire barrier under FBC Section 707 and is approved for a broad range of occupancy classifications including: A (assembly), B (business), E (educational), F-2 (factory/industrial), H-4, H-5 (high hazard), I (institutional), M (mercantile), R (residential), S-2 (storage), and U (utility). This versatility allows the same wall system to be specified across multiple building types, simplifying design and coordination.
Unlike conventional fire-rated walls that require multiple layers and on-site assembly to achieve compliance, the 10.5” Envirocast system arrives already fire-rated. This eliminates the need for time-consuming stick-built or masonry-built construction to meet the two-hour requirements.
Pre-assembled and rated panels significantly reduce site labor, streamline installation, and help projects move forward more efficiently, an important advantage in today’s fast-paced construction environment. By minimizing on-site labor and processes with factory-quality, pre-assembled and pre-inspected product, the Envirocast system can help reduce overall wall assembly costs compared to traditional methods, depending on project scope and conditions.
The two-hour fire-rating certification reinforces CXT’s commitment to delivering innovative, code-compliant building solutions that save time, simplify construction, and support safer buildings. With the fire-rated Envirocast wall panel system, meeting Florida building code fire requirements is now faster and more straightforward than ever.
