For track replacement and expansion work, railroads and transit agencies remain committed to transitioning from the use of stick rail—or individual pieces of rail that require joints—to welded rails or ribbon rail. Continuous rail results in a safer, smoother track that requires less maintenance.
As railroads and transit agencies continue to outsource more functions, including offloading rail, L.B. Foster is meeting that demand by offering a range of rail distribution services, including project management and unloading supervision on every CWR train. We can furnish full unload crews and equipment when requested to help reduce unloading times to as short as one day. This is particularly important for customers moving towards precision scheduled railroading.
Our rail distribution system supplies new rail, in a variety of lengths, from 40’, 80’, 320’ and up to 1,600’, as well as track maintenance parts and accessories. L.B. Foster provides rail sections from 12 LB to 175 LB. Popular sections include 115RE and 136RE. We offer continuous rail (CWR) delivered to the jobsite on our own trains with unloading services.
