For 25 years, AMERICAN Steel Pipe and L.B. Foster have worked together to provide customers with the convenience and cost savings of receiving their pipe and coating from a single location. Since the partnership began in 1992, L.B. Foster has coated more than 400 million square feet of AMERICAN Steel Pipe.
“Our customers benefit from having L.B. Foster’s coating facility onsite at AMERICAN’s headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama,” said AMERICAN Steel Pipe Assistant Manager Paul Freund. “Through this relationship, we are able to provide fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) coating, abrasion resistant overcoating (ARO) and internal linings for AMERICAN’s line pipe.”
In 2016, L.B. Foster became a certified special polymer coating (SPC) applicator and now applies a variety of SPC coatings, such as 8888 and 2888. These coatings are excellent in high temperature applications.
This partnership, however, isn’t confined to the state of Alabama. L.B. Foster’s coating plant in Willis, Texas, recently coated the first known shipment of AMERICAN pipe with special polymer coating (SPC) 8888, which is typically used for in-field applications up to 303 degrees Fahrenheit. This coating is typically used on pipe installed at the outbound of natural gas compressor stations and crude oil pump stations, as it is able to withstand high temperatures.
“We now have the ability to offer a variety of coating solutions to AMERICAN’s Houston-based clientele,” said Rick Jones, director of L.B. Foster Protective Coatings. “Our goal is to provide a positive and consistent customer experience across all of our locations, and the partnership with AMERICAN at our Willis custom coating facility will only aid our cause.”
L.B. Foster’s plant in Willis is known for its variety of custom coating solutions such as SPC, Denso, Seal for Life and FBE coatings. In 2016, L.B. Foster became a certified SPC applicator, further strengthening its versatile custom coating solutions.
“The coating facility in Willis, Texas, is just another way AMERICAN Steel Pipe and L.B. Foster are committed to serving customers,” said Freund. “We look forward to continuing to use one another’s capabilities for future projects.”
AMERICAN Steel Pipe is a division of AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company. ASP manufactures electric-resistance-welded (ERW) steel pipe for the oil and natural gas industries in diameters from 12 ¾ to 24 inches and in lengths up to 80 feet.
