Triumph Motorcycles produce some of the finest motorbikes in the world, including the world famous Daytona, at Triumph's Hinckley Works, in the Midlands.
As Triumph, a technologically advanced company, realised the need to keep pace with the ever-changing industrial climate, they therefore recently moved into a purpose built factory adjacent to their old premises and this has enabled them to increase production when necessary.
Following on from the successful installation of the conveyor production line that LB Foster Materials Handling carried out in the previous factory, Triumph invited LB Foster to remove the existing conveyor from that factory. They then planned the installation in the new building during a short shut down period, which included erecting all necessary steelwork to support the production line. The newly installed conveyor now ensures that Triumph is set up for the 21st Century.
The newly installed conveyor supports each individual bike that is attached to a cradle allowing easy access for all parts of the manufacturing process. The completed bikes are then detached from this cradle, which returns automatically, on the overhead conveyor. This part of the conveyor runs above the production line and is enclosed in a cage for additional safety.
The management at Triumph were once again delighted with the positive input provided by LB Foster from planning right through to completion of the contract, which allowed the assembly line to be installed and fully operational with a minimum of disruption.
