L.B. Foster’s Inform Totems recently completed a trial with Sound Transit of Seattle, Washington. Our Inform Totems are a feature-rich, easy-to-use media and digital signage platform. This customer information solution allows operational users to send updates in pre-defined formats and templates that conform to corporate branding guidelines and communication standards.

Sound Transit is a public transit agency that serves the Seattle metropolitan area with express buses, light rail, and commuter train services. They trialed L.B. Foster’s Inform Totems as a solution for their digital communication needs from October 28, 2024, until February 28, 2025.
Our Inform Totems are fully interactive enabling passengers to access live travel information and to make informed decisions about their journey. Equipped with an IP65 Rated weather-proof touch screen, speakers, microphone, and camera-ready the Totems provide users with a well-designed and comprehensible experience. They are ADA compliant and include the ability to interact with deaf riders using American Sign Language (ASL). The totem’s mobile design allows them to be moved easily from one location to another that is in need of a digital communication solution. Additional features include vandalism and theft-resistance, 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity, 24-hour battery life, can reach a full charge in less than five hours, and the ability to be plugged into an outlet if desired.
At Sound Transit, our Inform Totems are being used to display information such as service outages, maps, train schedules, how-to videos, and connections to other transit systems, mainly buses and monorail but could include Amtrack and ferries. Westlake Station specifically has been reviewing our totem, located under Pine Street between 3rd and 6th avenues in Downtown Seattle, is a light rail station that is a part of the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel.
On February 28, 2025, the trial concluded, and Sound Transit is now considering using L.B. Foster’s Inform Totems during the FIFA World Cup and Club Cup to help locals, and visitors from around the world, navigate the area around Lumen Field and King Street Station. L.B. Foster will be adding multi-language capabilities to the totems including, English, Spanish Chinese (simplified), Vietnamese, Korean, Russian, and Filipino (Tagalog) to enhance the experience for locals and visitors from around the world.
