L.B. Foster was proud to sponsor this year’s Rail Industry Association (RIA) Trailblazers Summer Networking Reception, held at the iconic Kia Oval in London.
This vibrant event is a cornerstone of the RIA Trailblazers initiative — a movement aligned with the Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Charter launched in 2020 by RIA and Women in Rail, and supported by the dedicated efforts of the EDI Charter Working Group.

Designed to connect rising stars with seasoned professionals across the UK rail sector, the Trailblazers event celebrates the power of mentoring, shared experiences, and fresh perspectives. The 2025 edition brought together hundreds of industry voices to learn, connect, and champion the future of a diverse rail workforce.

As part of our continued commitment to fostering inclusion and driving innovation, L.B. Foster proudly showcased our Inform Totem and Welcome Point — smart digital solutions that make travel more intuitive and accessible for all passengers. These technologies reflect our mission to enhance the public transport experience while embracing the needs of every traveller.

Keynote speakers included Andy Steel, Managing Director of QTS Group; Simon Kendler, Committee Member of Young Rail Professionals (YRP); and Kelly Warburton, Board Trustee at Women in Rail — each sharing insights into leadership, collaboration, and the path to a more inclusive rail network.
One of the event’s most memorable moments came from British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter Katie Lafferty, whose engaging, on-the-spot translation of the day's speeches ensured Deaf attendees were fully included. Her professionalism underscored a shared commitment to accessible communication and inclusive public engagement.

From the energy of the networking sessions to the inspirational speakers, the 2025 Trailblazers Reception was a powerful reminder that diversity isn’t just a goal — it’s a driving force for progress. L.B. Foster is honoured to support this vision and to help develop pioneering technology for the rail industry, making it accessible for all passengers.
