L.B. Foster’s subsidiary, CXT Incorporated, ships approximately eight to ten precast concrete buildings to Alaska every year.
CXT Concrete Buildings: A Journey to Alaska
CXT’s concrete buildings can be found all over the United States and Canada, some travelling as far as 2,000 miles to reach their Alaskan destination. Due to extreme weather conditions, the typical shipping season to Alaska is from June to September.
Extreme Conditions, Exceptional Performance
CXT buildings are in use at federal, state, county, city, and private recreational sites nationwide. Our precast concrete buildings are manufactured using steel-reinforced concrete that is resistant to weathering, corrosion, and vandalism and can withstand extreme conditions caused by snow, wind, water, and zone 4 seismic loads. CXT buildings are also easy to install and maintain, requiring minimal site preparation.
The Precast Powerhouse: CXT's Resilient Structures
The journey for a building that is bound for Alaska begins at CXT’s Nampa, ID facility. The building is constructed at this site, and once completed is loaded onto a truck and taken to Alaska Marine Lines (AML) in Seattle, WA.
When the building arrives in Seattle, it is placed onto a barge. From there, the barge typically takes ten days to sail to Anchorage, AK. Upon arrival in Anchorage, the building is offloaded onto another truck and driven to its final destination where it is placed and installed.
Jim's Landing Boat Launch: A Home for CXT's Latest Addition
The latest CXT building shipped to Alaska in late June 2023 was a Double Rocky Mountain vault style building. The destination for this building was Jim’s Landing Boat Launch in Cooper Land, AK.
